ABOUT ICHIGO

A cultural space in a garage

Ichigo is a dance studio, a workshop, a gallery and, when needed, a stage. A living place where people dance, paint, play music and exhibit, sometimes all in the same week.

How it started

Before Ichigo, this was a bike workshop. Then a “for rent” sign went up on the building, and Alexandra called. No business plan, lots of intuition.

Friends showed up with their hands, their ideas and their trust. The empty garage grew into a community: classes, workshops with local and international artists, exhibitions, concerts, parties.

With Velo's support we've been able to make events bigger and more accessible, and even run free classes.

WHERE THE NAME COMES FROM

一期一会 · Ichigo ichie

In Japanese: every moment happens only once. And ichigo also means strawberry. For us it became the symbol of everything that grows here: small seeds that turn into ideas, friendships and things made together.
