CLASS

Waacking

Wednesday, 18:30 · with WAANA · Open level

Arms slicing the air, poses, musicality and attitude on disco. Freedom and presence.

WHERE IT COMES FROM

Waacking emerged in the LGBTQ+ clubs of Los Angeles during the 1970s, particularly within Black and Latino communities. Originally known as a form of expression and escape within club culture, it developed alongside disco music and became known for its distinctive arm movements, posing, musicality and dramatic performance quality.

IN CLASS

The style is built around elements such as arm patterns, lines, poses, groove, musicality and character. Waacking is highly expressive and encourages dancers to play with different textures, dynamics and personalities while responding directly to the music.

WHAT TO BRING

Clothes you can move freely in (a sleeveless top is perfect), clean trainers, water.
